Danube River - #34HT

Safe and happy walking along the river, we were enjoying a warm sunny day in the ending of afternoon where everyone was outside doing sports, sitting along the river and chatting. It happens in Europe when the long wintertime is ending up. We definitely were in the same mood, after living the north European winter for several months that in fact it starts in October and ends up in May. When I say winter, I'm not talking about the season and about the cold period of time.

This walk was really nice. The impression was that the Danube was separating two different cities, once it's a really large river. You probably heard about this river before. With 2860km of length, Danube River is the Europe's second longest river, just smaller than the Volga, a river located in Russia. The Danube for several years was used as frontier of the Roman Empire. The Roman borders in most the north part were defined by the shape of the river. It was the division between roman and Barbarians, place where happened wars as well. A well-known conflict was the Battle of the Danube. A war between the Russian Empire against the Ottoman Empire, where there were 100 thousand soldiers. It's like Russians against Turkish in the 19th century. The history also mention Alexander the Great in a war between tribes in Macedonia and Darius the Great, king of Persia that crossed river to try to invade the European Scythian.

Danube is currently crossing 10 different countries. There is none river in the world crossing more countries than the Danube. Count by yourself: Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Romania, Moldova and Ukraine.

You probably didn't know that Danube was passing in Linz there, me either. The first time that I saw the Danube was when I was traveling in Budapest in the beginning of 2016. Budapest is a big reference, but the river that starts in the black Forest and ends up in the black sea is also a post card picture of cities such as Vienna, Bratislava and Belgrade. Think about the Danube next time that you visit these cities or any of the 97 cities that this river is crossing.

This chill walk along the river made me feel that Linz was a great choice. Thanks for the Danube. After this relaxing moment, it was the time to meet our savior, Phillip. He just lived 10min from the river and we were saying see you soon to our Danube.
